Nail Surgery (60 min)£350.00
Nail Surgery Nail surgery is a minor surgical procedure used to remove part or all of a toenail that is severely ingrown, repeatedly infected, or damaged by fungal infection. The procedure is carried out under a local anaesthetic, ensuring the area is completely numb and pain-free. What Is Nail Surgery? Nail surgery involves the partial or total removal of a toenail under local anaesthetic. It is typically recommended when an ingrown toenail causes ongoing pain or infection and can no longer be managed through routine podiatry care. In some cases, surgery may also be advised for toenails that are thickened, deformed, or persistently affected by fungal infection. Who Is Suitable for Nail Surgery? Eligibility for nail surgery depends on the patient’s age, general health, and medical history. It may not be suitable for individuals who are: Pregnant Allergic to local anaesthetic Taking certain medications Suffering from poor circulation A full assessment will always be carried out beforehand to ensure the procedure is safe and appropriate. What Does the Procedure Involve? If nail surgery is recommended, the procedure usually follows these steps: The patient is seated comfortably and the toe is cleaned and disinfected. A local anaesthetic is injected into the toe to completely numb the area. A tourniquet is applied to minimise bleeding during the procedure. The problematic section of the nail (or the entire nail) is carefully removed. A chemical called phenol may be applied to the nail bed to prevent regrowth. The tourniquet is removed, and a sterile dressing is applied. The podiatrist provides aftercare advice, including how to keep the toe clean and promote healing. A follow-up appointment is arranged to check the wound and change the dressing.
